I’m an avid fan of solo dating.

Solo dating means to spend uninterrupted personal time with yourself. People find it difficult to bask in their own presence. Sure, it can feel awkward at first but eventually you get use to travelling around the city by yourself and exploring different settings.

Being an introvert means I require space away from others to recharge. So I take advantage of this by doing things that I love and are also low costing, because London is not cheap! Solo dating can be inexpensive. I tend plan where I want to go so that I do not become overwhelmed with unexpected costs and hits to my bank account. Some of my favourite places to go to are galleries, museums, restaurant's (that have cafeteria style seating like Vapianos and Wagamama’s) and occasionally the cinema.

There are incredible benefits to solo dating, it doesn’t have to be awkward and it can be incredibly fulfilling.

Here are 4 spectacular reasons to go on a solo date

Being comfortable being alone

Many of us find it difficult to be alone with our thoughts, feelings and inner dialogue. In fact many of us try to run away from ourselves and our feelings and thoughts. But remember, you are not your thoughts. Some many of us seem to jump from relationship to relationship or event to event without taking the time to get to know ourselves.

Discovering your likes and dislikes

By the time we are 7, we have the beliefs of our parents or guardians imprinted upon our subconscious minds, including societal beliefs, feelings and thoughts. Going on a solo date allows you to discover what you like and what you do not like. It also helps you to realise what type of dates you would like to go on if you were to actually, you know, date another human being.

Its an opportunity to ground yourself

The rat race is exhausting, and even if you work for yourself it is still important to take time out for yourself and ground yourself. Treat yourself once in a while by taking yourself out on a solo date and exploring activities you love and new things you have discovered. Embrace nature with your arms open wild and take it in.

Create new experiences

Create memories by yourself! Creating memories with others can be equally great but if you want to do an activity like pottery for example, and people are not able to attend then go by yourself. You’ll meet new people and create an awesome experience learning how to create the finest china.
