September Reset: 3 effortless ways to feel restored and revived this month

September tends to feel like a natural reset, because of our back-to-school days. Now in my late 20s, I find that September is the time to reflect on what has gone well in the past months and what I would like to achieve in the upcoming months.

September just signals a new transition, a new season, and the beginning of the end of the year. We begin to prepare for the autumn and winter months after a period of celebration over the past summer holidays.

A September Reset may encourage us to make a change to an environment, personal space, wardrobe, or to our attitude in life in general. I know for a fact that I tend to become a lot more reflective and I begin to think of my end-of-year goals. We head back into reality after the Summer breaks - even if you haven’t traveled out of the country.

A September Reset can also bring about productivity and resilience in the long run, it’s simply an effortless way to refresh your mind, body, and soul.

Here are 3 effortless ways to restore and revived this month.

De-clutter and clear out things taking up space

This could mean reflecting on objects you no longer use or numbers in your phone you haven’t dialed in years. Removing old things makes space for new things in your life. You may also consider decluttering old clothes and decided to revive your wardrobe with new pieces of clothing.

Be SMART

Not everyone is familiar with SMART goals, but for those who are it may be handy to utilise to track progress in your life. Remember that setting goals can be done in different ways. Me, I enjoy vision boarding and writing down my goals on a piece of paper. Others like to brainstorm different categories like finance, health, career, and relationships onto planning apps like Notion.

Remember in order for these goals to come to fruition, be specific and set that intention that it will come to pass. Reflect on how you can keep yourself on track, and ensure that the goals are goals that you can visualise achieving. Some goals you set may have a deadline, however you may need to be flexible.

Create a well-being day, week, or calendar

As a mental health professional, keeping on top of well-being, whether it be physical or mental, is important. I currently started Yoga Tuesdays, which is a day I have dedicated to practicing Sun Salutations which promote’s flexibility and strength, and tone of the body. Moving the body aids mental well-being on a deeper. Movement also supports my clinical practice as a Dance Movement Psychotherapist!

Building your wellbeing calendar for your September Reset may include physical activities that you enjoy, social events that bring you joy, or hobbies that make you feel relaxed.
