4 days into the New Year, the UK was put into lockdown. This meant working from home again and basically doing everything from the comfort of your sofa. Lockdown has been somewhat draining for me and perhaps difficult especially being a key worker during this ordeal, however, I have found some interesting series and movies to keep myself entertained.

Series and movies have been a great way to escape the everyday restraints of life for a bit. So far, here is what I have enjoyed watching on Netflix.

Your January Edition:

  1. Bridgeton

Watch eligible bachelorettes pine and swoon over men in London as they prepare for marriage. The plot follows a young lady named Daphne on her journey to marriage and her encounter with the eligible Duke of Hastings. Lady Whistle Down has the residents on edge as she debuts her weekly gossip column. It was interesting to see the heavy focus on women getting married very early and the pressures that women had to face in comparison to men.

2. Lupin

Alas, the Gentleman Burglar. I will admit that at the of this writing, I have not yet completed the series. However, I have taken a liking to the narrative and the plot of the story. The story goes on a journey where a young man tries to avenge his father who was accused of robbing a beautiful necklace from a household where he worked. The young man in turn uses the tricks and tactics of Arsene Lupin to construct his plans.

3. Girlfriends

Whilst it’s not a new series, I never really got to get into Girlfriends when I was younger, so I decided to give it a watch. The plot follows four women who are navigating their lives, careers, and romantic relationships. I particularly got into the show to see what the fuss about the character Joan Clayton was about.

4. The Queen’s Gambit

Although I found the start of the series intriguing and gripping, I found myself losing interest as the character grew older. I am yet to complete the season, who knows if I ever will. However, critics say it’s still a good watch. The series focuses on Beth, an orphan who goes on to become a professional chess player competing in the U.S. Championships.

5. How to Get Away with Murder

HTGAWM is a series that has been going on for a while. I finally got to catch up on season 6 and watch the season finale with absolute joy.
